Biography
Mezzo-soprano Milette Gillow graduated with distinction from the Royal Academy of Music's Preparatory Opera course, where she studied with Alex Ashworth and Iain Ledingham, following a PhD in mathematics from the University of Leeds.
Her operatic work includes Carmen (Carmen), Dido (Dido and Aeneas), and Lišák (Příhody lišky Bystroušky), the latter production winning a 2023 Offie (Off West End Theatre Award) for ensemble cast. Additional experience includes scenes from roles such as Octavian (Der Rosenkavalier), Angelina (La Cenerentola), Lucretia (The Rape of Lucretia), and Rosina (Il barbiere di Siviglia).
As a concert and recital soloist, Milette has performed with ensembles including the Cambridge Philharmonic, Bridge Sinfonia, and Academy Baroque Soloists. She is a Kathleen Ferrier Award Semi-Finalist 2023, and has appeared at Wigmore Hall as part of the FCOL! series. Her repertoire reflects a particular affinity for English song and large-scale choral works, including Elgar’s Sea Pictures and Bach’s Mass in B minor.
Alongside her musical career, Milette works in the technology sector and is the co-founder of The Tech Bros, an organisation supporting women founding technology startups. She currently balances selected professional singing engagements with digital performance work and creative projects, focusing on repertoire and formats that allow for experimentation, humour, and direct audience engagement.
She is based in Oxford and serves on the Governing Board of Oxford High School GDST.
